August 20, 2008, Del Mar, CA: Integrity Revolution, LLC, announced today that they have given a 2008 Integrity Inspiration Award to the Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) at the University of Pennsylvania.
According to Dr. David Gruder, Executive Director of Integrity Revolution, "the APPC received an Integrity Inspiration Award because of their FactCheck.org website, which provides the public and the press with a reliable way to separate fact from spin in politics."
Dr. Gruder, a psychologist who authored the two-award-winning book, The New IQ: How Integrity Intelligence Serves You, Your Relationships and Our World, maintains that members of what he calls 'the New Silent Majority' are fed up with the spin that comes from the political left, the political right, and the vast majority of special interest groups of all kinds. Says Gruder, "FactCheck.org provides the public and the press with the power to separate spin from fact in politics."
FactCheck.org is an independent nonpartisan nonprofit website maintained by the Annenberg Foundation. Its purpose is to "increase public knowledge and understanding" by monitoring "the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews, and news releases" in order to "reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics."
The FactCheck.org website is maintained by the Annenberg Political Fact Check project, which is run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center. According to the FactCheck.org website, the Annenberg Public Policy Center (APPC) "was established by publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg in 1994 to create a community of scholars within the University of Pennsylvania that would address public policy issues at the local, state, and federal levels."
The site states that "the APPC accepts no funding from business corporations, labor unions, political parties, lobbying organizations or individuals. It is funded primarily by the Annenberg Foundation."
Gruder added that "the American psyche has been controlled by spin to a far greater extent than is healthy in a democracy." and that "in our current Age of Spin, resources like FactCheck.org provide the New Silent Majority with the facts they need to inoculate themselves against being manipulated by the spin that self-serving individuals and groups spew on a daily basis."
